Process for obtaining driving license can be completed from home: Obaidul Quader

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Nov 16: Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said those who will apply for driving license from today (Wednesday), will get driving license at home. However, he also said that the applicant will have to come to BRTA once for the examination and providing biometrics.

The Minister told this to the journalists present at the end of the 29th meeting of the National Road Safety Council (NRSC) organized by the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority at the conference room of the BRTA headquarters on Tuesday.

Obaidul Quader said that a pilot project of the first phase under the Road Safety Programme proposed by the World Bank has been undertaken; On the eve of which the expenditure has been estimated to be around Tk 4,080 crore. Meanwhile, the DPP of the project has been reconstituted which will soon be sent to the Planning Commission for ECNEC meeting.

The objective of the project is to reduce the level of road accidents and losses caused by them; Capacity building of government agencies involved in road safety and achieving economic growth. The project has the Directorate of Sewage, BRTA, Bangladesh Police, and Directorate of Health Services as stakeholders. The implementation period of the project is from December 2022 to November 2027.

The meeting held under the chairmanship of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was attended by Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, Dhaka South City Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapos, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation President and Madaripur-2 Constituency MP Shajahan Khan, Technical and Madrasa Education Department. Senior Secretary Md. Kamal Hossain, Secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Md. Humayun Kabir Khondkar, Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department ABM Amin Ullah Noori, Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department AKM Monir Hossain Pathan, Executive Director of DTCA, Bangladesh Television. Director General, Chairman of BIWTC, Chairman of BRTC, Secretary General of Bangladesh Road Transport Association, General Secretary of Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, General Secretary of Bangladesh Truck and Covered Van Owners Association, representatives of related organizations and senior officials.
