Qatar's Labour Minister praises skills of Bangladeshi workers

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 22: Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Imran Ahmed held a meeting with Qatar's Minister of Labour Ali Bin Samikh Al Marri regarding the development and expansion of Bangladesh's labour market in Qatar.

The meeting was held at noon on Sunday (August 21) at the office of the Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment. At that time, the secretary of the ministry Dr. Ahmed Muniruch Salehin was present.

At this time, they discussed the development of the labour market of Bangladesh in Qatar, the labor law of Qatar, the overall protection and responsibilities and rights of workers. In addition, the meeting discussed the recruitment of necessary personnel from Bangladesh in the nursing, hospitality, construction, service and IT sectors in Qatar.

In the meeting, the expatriate welfare minister said that the workers of Bangladesh are very hardworking and responsible. They are contributing efficiently and successfully to the development activities of various countries including the Middle East. Besides, various initiatives have been taken to improve the skills of Bangladeshi workers.

The minister appreciated Qatar's positive reforms regarding changes in the kafala system and setting minimum wages.

In the meeting, the Labour Minister of Qatar praised the efficiency of the Bangladeshi workers.

He said, "Qatar's labour law has been amended. In this act, foreign workers will get all the benefits like domestic workers." He emphasized on sending skilled workers suitable for Qatar's growing labor market.

The Qatari minister said, "Action is being taken immediately if employers do any illegal work with foreign workers. A welfare fund has been set up for workers working in Qatar. Payments are made from this fund if an employer is unable to pay dues. At the same time, he emphasized on Bangladeshi workers staying in Qatar to abide by the laws of Qatar."
