Rajshahi: All kinds of roadshows banned

Dhaka, 23 May 2023 : Police have banned all kinds of road shows in Rajshahi metropolis.

The march has been banned in the interest of law and order and public safety.

A notification in this regard has been published by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) on Monday night. Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media) Rafiqul Alam said this on Tuesday.

According to the notification, it is necessary to maintain law and order situation in Rajshahi metropolis in view of the announcement of schedule of upcoming Rajshahi City Corporation Election-2023. In such a situation, there is a danger of deterioration of law and order in the metropolis with any kind of unauthorized march. Therefore, in order to maintain law and order and public safety measures, on May 23, according to Section-30 of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Act, 1992, the Police Commissioner of RMP has announced a ban on all types of marching programs.

Meanwhile, to keep the law and order situation normal in Rajshahi city, additional police have been deployed at important junctions of the city. Policemen were seen especially at Sahebbazar, Gorhanga railway gate junction of the city. Besides, after 11 o'clock, the police barricaded the Kalpana intersection of the city.

In this regard, Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP's former office secretary Dicken said, the police locked our office. The party has surrounded the office. No one is allowed to go. In this situation, we do not have the opportunity to carry out the central program march.

Adviser to BNP Chairperson Mizanur Rahman Minu said this is our systematic movement. The march was to be held as part of the central programme. Walking in the metropolis is not possible. So we are holding a march program in six police stations of the city.

RMP Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Media) Rafiqul Alam said that it is important to maintain the law and order situation in the city in view of the municipal elections and university entrance exams. Any unauthorized march in such circumstances may lead to deterioration of law and order. Therefore, all kinds of padayatra programs have been declared banned.
