Registration deadline for Hajj extended as country fails to meet quota

Dhaka, March 8: Half of the quota has not been met this year for the registration of Hajj pilgrims to go to Hajj this year. State Minister for Religious Affairs Md. Faridul Haque Khan said the registration was extended till March 16.

The state minister said this in his office at the secretariat on Tuesday afternoon. With this, the Hajj registration period has been extended for the third time.

Hajj pilgrim registration started on February 8, registration was supposed to end on February 23. But due to the response from the registrations, the time was later extended by five days till February 28. However, the registration rate was very low. Later the registration deadline was extended to March 7. But against the quota, even half of the pilgrims are still not registered.

The state minister for religion said, "The time for registration was till March 7. We have extended the time till March 16. If the quota is not filled by then, we will consider and take the next decision."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued a notification extending the registration time after evening. It is said that the deadline for Hajj pilgrim registration for government management and private management has been extended for the final and last time till March 16. The last serial of pre-registration in government management is fixed up to 45,605 keeping the previous serial.

Besides, the last serial of pre-registration in private management was fixed up to 8,86,190 by maintaining the previous serial. Once the quota is full, the registration server will automatically shut down. The registration period will not be extended.

According to the data of Hajj Portal of the Ministry of Religion at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, 9,242 people registered under government management and 53,941 people under private management. More than half of the quota is still vacant.
