RMCH registers 18 deaths in 24 hours

Dhaka, July 5: Eighteen more coronavirus deaths were reported at the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the last 24 hours till Monday morning, according to reports.

A Dhaka Tribune report quoting RMCH Director Shamim Yeazdani said eight among the deceased were from Rajshahi, four from Naogaon, three from Natore, and one each from Chapainawabganj, Pabna, and Kushtia districts.

The RMCH director said seven of them were aged above 60 years, three were between 51 to 60 years, two were between 41 to 50 years, and six were aged between 31 to 40 years.

With this RMCH's death tally since July 1 now stands at 82.

The director said 69 people were admitted to the coronavirus unit of the hospital in the aforementioned 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the hospital has discharged 48 people following their recovery during the same period.

According to the director, 495 people have been undergoing treatment at the facility against a capacity of 405 beds at the hospital's coronavirus unit.

He added that Ward No 4 of the hospital is now being added to its coronavirus unit to cope with the swelling numbers.

“The work of installing 50 oxygen lines has been completed. With this, the number of beds in our Covid unit will increase to 455,” the director told Dhaka Tribune.

The district's infection rate also increased from 34.09 percent Sunday from 33.83 percent on Saturday after 210 samples from a total of 616 returned positive results.

Another 654 samples tested in two other labs of RMCH returned positive results for 218 patients. In Chapainawabganj, eight people tested positive from a sample of 38.
