Dhaka, May 21: Dhaka Reporters Unity will file a case against Prothom Alo journalist Rozina Islam's harassers, if her family does not move ahead with it. Besides, an investigation committee will be formed by the DRU to unravel the real mystery of the incident. Journalists' organizations are meeting on Saturday to decide on the movement for the release of Rozina Islam, the victim of the case.

The group's general secretary Moshiur Rahman Khan made the remarks at a protest rally in front of the DRU office on Friday (May 21st) at noon against the torture and arrest of journalist Rozina Islam.

He said, "Talks are going on with the Dhaka Reporters' Unity with Prothom Alo and Rozina Islam's family. It is better if they file a case as plaintiffs and we will extend all possible cooperation. If they do not, we will file a case."

The rally also demanded the withdrawal of case against Rozina Islam.

Moshiur Rahman Khan said, "Rozina's bail hearing has been completed and will received the order on Sunday. Once she gets bail, our movement will not stop. We will continue the movement. This case must be withdrawn and those who are involved in harassing and torturing Rozina Islam must be given are exemplary punishment. Justice must be ensured."

"Without the government setting up an independent inquiry committee, a separate committee will be formed on behalf of the journalist community. We will form an investigation committee on behalf of the Dhaka Reporters Unity and reveal the real secret of the incident to the public," the DRU general secretary said.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Rozina's husband Monirul Islam Mithu told the media at the court premises that his family would file a case against those who harassed his wife.

"I will file a case in the name of Additional Secretary Kazi Jebunnesa Begum, Assistant Secretary Zakia Parveen, Police Constable Mizan and others who were involved. We have spoken to our lawyer. We will discuss the case with him when he arrives," he said.

Rozina was tortured, Mithu said, adding that "She was tortured, assaulted, strangled. Her mobile phone was snatched."

It is to be mentioned that Rozina Islam was detained at the Ministry of Health for about six hours while she was performing her professional duties and was tortured and harassed.
