Dhaka, February 16: Russia is sending goods via alternative route for Rooppur nuclear power project. The Russian media reported this information citing Rosatom. Earlier, Bangladesh returned the Russian ship which was under US sanctions. The ship was carrying the products of Rupupur nuclear plant.

According to the TASS report, the current problems related to transportation of goods will not have any negative impact on the project. Moreover, it is also reported that goods are being sent to Bangladesh using other routes.

Rosatom claims that the construction work of Rooppur nuclear power project is going on keeping in mind the scheduled time. An alternative route has already been found and is currently being used. The Russian state-controlled organization also said that the steps taken by the Bangladeshi authorities will not affect the implementation of the project.

It is known that a ship named 'Ursa Major' left for Bangladesh with the equipment of Rooppur nuclear power plant from St. Petersburg, Russia on November 14. But the US embassy in Dhaka told the Bangladesh government in December that it was actually a Russian ship named 'Sparta-3' which was under US sanctions. It is running under the name 'Ursa Major' after changing its color and name. It was also informed that allowing the ship to enter Bangladesh would be a violation of US sanctions.

After that, Bangladesh government decided that Ursa Major will not be allowed to enter any port of Bangladesh. Aleksandr Mantytsky, the Russian ambassador in Dhaka, was also informed about this decision.
