Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 14: Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on Feb 24. The war has been continuing between the two nations for the last 17 days. Many western media outlets are reporting on the war, and the Bangladeshi media too covering the same. However, the Russian embassy in Bangladesh has complained about some news articles on the ongoing war published by some media houses in the country.

The allegations were made in an open letter signed by the Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Alexander V. Mantitsky, on Sunday (March 13). At the same time, the letter explained Russia's military operation in Ukraine.

In the letter, the Russian ambassador said that he had collected articles from Western news agencies, publications and Europe-America on the Ukraine issue. Those writings contain anti-Russian propaganda. Sometimes there is some propaganda in those writings which is biased. He added that the West was spreading hatred and animosity against Russia. According to the Western media, such propaganda is being carried out in certain newspapers and on television in Bangladesh as well.

Explaining the aims and objectives of Russia's military operation in Ukraine, Ambassador Alexander V. Mantitsky said that Ukraine has been carrying out genocide on Russian speakers living in Kyiv for eight long years. We want to resist that. I want an end to neo-fascism. We want to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons in Ukraine. At the same time, we want to stop the establishment of NATO military bases in the country.

The Russian ambassador to Bangladesh claimed in the letter that Russian forces were conducting operations in Ukraine following Chapter 7 of Article 51 of the UN Charter and with the permission of the Russian parliament.

He wrote in the letter: "We are not involved in war with Ukraine. We have taken this position because of Russia's security threats."

Criticizing the United States, Russian ambassador Alexander V. Mantitsky said, "They [US] are bringing military weapons to our borders. Despite all this, in December 2021, we tried to reach an agreement with the United States and its allies on European security and NATO's non-expansion policy. But our efforts were in vain. The United States has not changed its position."
