Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 2: For the first time since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, a Russian ship carrying goods has arrived at Mongla sea port. At 4 pm on Monday, the Russian flagged ship 'MV Kamilla' anchored at jetty number 6 of Mongla port.

This is the first time a Russian ship has arrived in Mongla since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war. Earlier on June 28, the ship left the Russian port of Tamaruk with the cargo of Rooppur nuclear power plant. There are 13 sailors on board. The ship has 3,328.237 tonnes of machinery of Rooppur nuclear power plant.

HM Dulal, the owner of Nuru and Sons, a labour contractor for these products, said, "We are trying to start clearing the products from evening. Later will be sent to Rooppur as soon as possible."

Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa, Chairman of Mongla Port, said that the machineries of all the major projects in the country are imported from abroad. He expects that goods will arrive regularly on Russian ships even though Russia has a break for some time due to the Ukraine-war.

On October 17, 2021, Russian ship 'MV Pescavalis' arrived at Mongla port with 3,700 tonnes of machinery products for Rooppur nuclear power plant. On February 24, 2022, the Russia-Ukraine war began. It is still ongoing.
