Saudi people arrested in Dhaka airport with gold

Dhaka, May 2, 2021: A Saudi expatriate named Joynal Abedin has been arrested for smuggling gold.

While scanning his luggage at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, members of the Customs Preventive Team recovered two kilograms and 600 grams of gold from a charger light, toys and flux. The estimated market value of the seized gold is around Rs 2 crore.

On Saturday, Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commissioner (Preventive Team) Mohammad Abdus Sadeq said the Customs House Preventive Team at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport took up positions at various points of the airport to prevent smuggling on the basis of secret information. Passenger Joynal Abedin arrived on a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight from Saudi Arabia around 1.30pm on Saturday.

He added that he did not have any gold bars or ornaments with him when crossing the Green Channel. Scanning his luggage later found two kilograms and 800 grams of gold inside a charger light, toys and flux. The estimated market value of the seized gold is around Rs 2 crore.

He said he had been handed over to the airport police station after filing a criminal case in the incident.
