Dhaka, June 8: The court sentenced Tania Akhter, a teacher of Rangamati's Burighat Bazar Government Primary School, to one year's imprisonment in the check fraud case. At the same time, the check has been ordered to pay the equivalent of Tk 35 lakh. The judge of the Fourth Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court of Dhaka announced this verdict. Shah Alam, the plaintiff in the case called Am Moktar, was present on the day of the verdict.

Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, the plaintiff's lawyer, confirmed the verdict on Thursday. He said that the judge announced the verdict on June 5. As the accused was absconding at the time of the verdict, the court issued an arrest warrant against her.

On February 8, 2019 (CR Case No-399/19) Anwar E Taslima as plaintiff (Burighat Bazar Government Primary School, Naniarchar, Rangamati) filed a case against Assistant Teacher Tania Akhter. Anwar E Taslima, the main plaintiff in the case, said, "Accused Tanya Akhtar is my old acquaintance. We grew up together. Based on that, Tania asked me to lend her Tk 38 lakh for three months. I gave her Tk 35 lakh in good faith. I had some money short at that time. Hence I gave her the remaining Tk 3 lakh within the next month. The money was paid through two cheques. After receiving the money, she stopped all contact with me."

The plaintiff in the case also said, "Later on, when I told the matter to her (Tania Akhtar's) mother Rokeya Begum and sister Moni, they all started threatening me. At one point, I became helpless and approached the court. I am satisfied with the court's verdict."
