Dhaka, August 22, 2021: Due to heavy rains upstream, the water level of major rivers in the country is increasing.

Therefore, the ongoing flood situation in the northern and central parts of the country may deteriorate further. As per the data on Sunday (August 22) morning, the water of five rivers of the country is flowing over the danger line at eight points. This was stated in the report of the Bangladesh Water Development Board's Flood Forecasting and Warning Center on rainfall and river status.

According to the river situation and forecast, the water level of Brahmaputra, Jamuna and Padma is rising, which may continue for the next 24 hours. The Ganges and Surma-Kushiyara rivers are receding, a trend that could continue for the next 24 hours. The report further said that the water level of Teesta river may remain stable in the next 24 hours. In the next 24 hours, the Jamuna River at Sirajganj Point and the Dhaleshwari River at Elasin Point could cross the danger line, the report said.

Flood forecasting and warning center executive engineer. Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan said the water of five rivers was flowing over the danger line at eight points. He said that the water of Dharla is flowing over seven centimeters of the danger level in Kurigram. Besides, the water of Jamuna river is flowing at two centimeters at Aricha point, 12 centimeters at Mathura point and one centimeter of danger at Kazipur point.

Arifuzzaman Bhuiyan further said, ‘The water of Atrai river has crossed the danger line at Baghabari point. The water is flowing over 9 cm above the danger level. The water level of Gorai river at Kamarkhali point is 19 cm above the danger level.
