A long march has been announced at a rally in Shahbag demanding the removal of the home minister in protest of continued rape and impunity across the country, including in the hills.

A long march towards Noakhali was announced on October 16 and 17 from the general assembly organized under the banner 'Bangladesh against rape and injustice'. Besides, a nine-point demand was announced for the trial of rape and oppression and removal of the Home Minister.

The announcement was made at a rally in front of the Shahbagh National Museum on Friday (October 9th) afternoon. Speakers at the rally said, "There is an epidemic of rape all over the country. Proponents of her case have been working to make the actual transcript of this statement available online. Now we have to fight against this Awami misrule as well as against making women products in advertisements. Rape cannot be stopped by law alone. That is why we have to change the culture. '

The speakers further said, "Students will have to come forward on October 16 and 17 to make our long march and daily continuous position program a success." It is not possible to realize the demands of the students without a united struggle.

From the rally every day from noon onwards, continuous position, photo exhibition on October 11, cultural gathering on October 12, film exhibition on October 13, women's rally on October 14, bicycle rally on October 15 were announced.

Leaders and activists of various social organizations including Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation, Youth Union, Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Charan Cultural Center, Nari Samhati, Garments TUC were present at the rally.

The protesters have taken a stand in front of the Shahbagh National Museum to protest the rape and oppression of women across the country and demand punishment for all those involved in these incidents. This position program is going on under the banner of 'Bangladesh against rape and injustice'.

Meanwhile, Nurul Haque Nur, former vice-president (VP) of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Daksu), criticized the government for preventing rape across the country, saying that whatever the Bangladesh Awami League government does, they have failed to run the government. He has demanded the resignation of the government.

On the other hand, Chhatra League president Al Nahyan Khan Joy has directed the leaders and activists to guard to prevent eve-teasing and rape. He also alleged that the rape started by Nur Gang was spreading across the country.
