Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 7: Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Mustafa Jabbar paid homage to Shaheed Janani (Mother of Martyrs) Jahanara Imam on her birth anniversary and said, "The life of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam is crucial for us to build a non-communal Bangladesh which will be free from anti-independence elements. We are following the path she has shown us."
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at an international webinar titled "Preventing Sectarian Jihad of Radicals through Social Media" on the occasion of the 93rd birth anniversary of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam, the convener of the 1971 Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee.
Expressing gratitude to the 1971 Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee for organizing the webinar, the heroic freedom fighter Mustafa Jabbar said, "We have established the People's Republic of Bangladesh under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by defeating the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. These radical communal incidents are a threat to the establishment of non-communal Bangladesh of Bangabandhu's dream. Bangladesh is based on Bengali nationalism. It is a great challenge to uproot the way in which the radical communal evil has taken root in Bangladesh."
He said that a social, cultural and political movement should be formed against the radical activities of the anti-freedom elements through social media.
"Through BTRC, we are planning to create an app to delete offensive posts and comments from various online portals. Since 4 lakh accounts of the country are connected with Facebook, it cannot be said that Facebook will be shut down. However, discussions are going on regularly with the Facebook authorities. Now our success rate for reporting various Facebook posts and deleting them was five percent before, now it has increased to 40 percent. The role of the Ministry of Home Affairs is pioneering in eradicating fundamentalist terrorism. We will talk to the Home Minister about this and through him we can take initiative to make the members of the law enforcement agencies aware about this issue to eradicate fundamentalist terrorism," the minister said.
The Minister of Information Technology called upon the committee to send the details of their cases to the Ministry of Law.
The day of Eid-ul-Fitr on May 3 this year was the 93rd birth anniversary of Shaheed Janani Jahanara Imam, the founding convener of Nirmul Committee.
