Sheikh Haisna emphasizes on strengthening bond with neighbours

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stressed on the need for better cooperation with neighboring countries for the development of the people of the region. 

The Press Secretary said the Prime Minister and the Indian High Commissioner discussed issues of mutual interest. The coronavirus situation and the protracted Rohingya issue also came up for discussion.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister said, "Our foreign policy is friendship with all and not enmity with anyone." We have always believed that better cooperation with neighboring countries is needed for the development of the people of the region.

Sheikh Hasina also said that neighboring countries could use Chittagong, Sylhet and Syedpur airports in Bangladesh for their convenience. Praising the steps taken by Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to curb the spread of the corona epidemic, Ganguly said the two countries were working together to fight the deadly disease.
The High Commissioner also lauded the economic development of Bangladesh under the leadership of the Prime Minister amid the Kovid-19 epidemic.

Sheikh Hasina said people of all levels and classes and professions are working together to tackle the crisis. He said that a comprehensive program was taken on the occasion of Mujib Year. Due to the coronavirus we could not celebrate many events.

Apart from the government's tree planting drive, her party Awami League has undertaken a program to plant one crore trees across the country in the Mujib year, Sheikh Hasina said.

During the meeting, the High Commissioner also handed over a letter from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Prime Minister. In the letter, Narendra Modi greeted the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on the occasion of her 74th birthday. The Indian High Commissioner also wished the Prime Minister on her birthday.

Recalling India's contribution to the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971, Sheikh Hasina said the people of India and all its political parties had given unprecedented support to the liberation war of Bangladesh and in the same way they had supported the historic land boundary agreement with Bangladesh.

The High Commissioner also informed the Prime Minister that the two Foreign Ministers of Bangladesh and India would meet in a virtual meeting on Tuesday (September 29).
