Dhaka, September 7: Pointing out that Bangladesh and India have resolved many important issues between them through discussion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "I hope that more important issues, even the Teesta water sharing agreement, will be resolved through discussion soon."

She said this while delivering a joint statement after a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 'Hyderabad House' in New Delhi on Tuesday (September 6) afternoon.

The Prime Minister recalled the cooperation of the people of India towards the Bengali nation during the liberation war and said that the people of India helped them and gave them shelter during that time. "Even after the assassination of Bangabandhu in 1975, the people of India have given us shelter and cooperation. We will remember this shelter-cooperation for the rest of our lives," she said.

Pointing out that fruitful discussions were held in the meeting with Narendra Modi, she said, "Here we have signed some agreements, which will lead to the development and welfare of both countries. We have reached consensus on some issues that are beneficial to the people of both countries. Our hope is that not only Bangladesh-India, but also South and South-East Asia should be well-being and prosperity."

Pointing out that there will always be disputes between friendly countries, the Prime Minister said that Bangladesh and India have resolved many important issues between them through discussion. India is the most important and close neighbor of Bangladesh. Bangladesh-India relations are a role model of 'neighbourhood diplomacy'.

After the meeting between the two Prime Ministers, seven MoUs were signed between Bangladesh and India.
