Sheikh Hasina invites UK businessmen to invest in Bangladesh

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 17: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has invited UK businessmen to take advantage of investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

The President of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Lord Karan Bilimoria of Chelsea paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister on the second day of his official visit on Friday (September 16) UK local time. Sheikh Hasina invited him that time.

According to the Prime Minister's Press Wing, Lord Billimoria briefed the Prime Minister about his work in developing the curry industry in the UK. The Prime Minister highlighted her government's efforts in vaccine development research and Bangladesh's readiness to partner with international organizations or businesses.

Lord Bilimoria is the first South Asian Parsi to sit in the UK House of Lords. He appreciated the Prime Minister's leadership in upholding the founding principles of Bangladesh and sustainable economic development. Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the contribution of Indian Army General Faridun Bilimoria, Lord Bilimoria's late father, during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

The Prime Minister recalled the sacrifices of many Indian Armed Forces for the freedom of Bangladesh. She also mentioned her efforts to honour the memory of Indian martyrs by launching a scholarship for their descendants during his visit to India earlier this month.

Lord Bilimoria as the Chancellor of the University of Birmingham expressed his interest in developing higher education partnership with Bangladesh. He invited the Prime Minister to the university to speak on a topic of his choice.

The Prime Minister apprised Lord about the flourishing start-up situation in Bangladesh and the work being implemented to build 'Digital Bangladesh'.

Bilimoria expressed interest in exploring potential partnership opportunities in the future.
