Sheikh Hasina leaves for Germany to attend Munich Security Conference

Dhaka, Feb 15: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka for Germany on Thursday (Feb 15) on a three-day official visit to attend the Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2024.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-207) carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage took off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital at 11 am.

The flight is scheduled to arrive at Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport in Germany at 5:20 pm (Munich local time).

This is Sheikh Hasina's first foreign visit after taking charge as the Prime Minister for the fifth time and fourth time in a row.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also meet the German Chancellor and the Prime Ministers of Denmark and the Netherlands on the sidelines of the Security Conference during her stay in Munich from Friday to Sunday.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud said that the Prime Minister will also meet the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Indian Foreign Minister will also meet the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

On the morning of February 16, Women Political Leaders (WPL) President Silvana Koch-Mehrin is likely to pay a courtesy call on the Prime Minister in the bilateral meeting room at her residence as per her itinerary.

In the same meeting room at noon, a meeting with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh is scheduled to be held by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development of the United Kingdom Rt Hon Lord Cameron.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina may attend the inauguration of the conference and deliver the conference chair's welcome speech at the conference hall of Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

On the same day, the World Bank's Senior Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships Axel van Trotsenburg will meet the Prime Minister in the meeting room of the conference venue.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also hold a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen at Hotel Beirischer Hof.

She will later participate in a panel discussion titled "From Pocket to Planet: Scaling Up Climate Finance" in Main Hall 1 of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

In the evening, the Prime Minister is likely to attend a community reception for Bangladeshi diaspora in Germany at Burgerhaus Gerching.

On February 17, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will meet Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

Later, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will meet the Prime Minister at Hotel Bayerischer Hof.

German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Svenja Schulze will meet the Prime Minister of Bangladesh at the venue of the conference.

The meeting between Sheikh Hasina and Federal Republic of Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz will be held at the conference venue Garden Salon.

The Prime Minister will later attend the Ewald von Kleist Award ceremony and state dinner at the Kaiserslautern's Munich residence.

On February 18, she will depart for Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight (BG-208) from Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport, Germany at 9:10 pm (Munich local time).

The plane carrying the Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11 am (Dhaka time) on Monday (February 19).
