Dhaka, March 26: Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has ordered party leaders across the spectrum to not organize Iftar Mahfil. The message was confirmed by Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

He said, "Awami League and its affiliated organizations from the center to the grassroots will not organize any iftar mahfil during the holy month of Ramadan. Our leader has given this order. Rather, iftar materials will be distributed among the poor people with that money."

Obaidul Quader said this in a rally organized in front of the central office of Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on Saturday afternoon. Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League jointly organized this rally on the occasion of Genocide Day on March 25.

General Secretary of Awami League said, "We will give food to the poor people on behalf of the party instead of organizing Iftar."

Earlier on Thursday, March 23, Prime Minister's Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Zahid Tushar told the media that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will not organize any Iftar party at Ganabhaban this Ramadan. She will have a simple iftar in person. The Prime Minister has taken this decision as part of the government's spending cuts.

Hasan Zahid Tushar said as the reason for this decision of the Prime Minister, she will not hold any kind of iftar party as part of the implementation of the frugality policy adopted by the Prime Minister in the current global context. Iftar, moderation and cost reduction.
