Sheikh Hasina pays tribute to Bangabandhu's portrait after winning polls

Dhaka, Jan 9: Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday morning paid tribute to Bangabandhu's portrait at Dhanmondi after winning the 12th National Parliament elections.

She paid tribute to Bangabandhu on Tuesday (January 9) morning. After that, Sheikh Hasina visited the graves of the relatives who were killed on August 15 at the Banani cemetery.

Earlier, Awami League president Sheikh Hasina exchanged courtesies with foreign journalists and observers as well as senior journalists of the country on Monday, the day after the 12th National Parliament election. The event organized on the green lawn of the Ganabhaban took the form of a press conference. Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina answered various questions of foreign journalists.

The 12th National Assembly election started from 8 am on Sunday. Polling started in 299 constituencies but was later canceled in one. Election Commission announced the results of 298 constituencies after the polling. In this, Awami League won 222 seats, independents won 62 seats, Jatiya Party won 11 seats and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal won one seat.

Meanwhile, party president Sheikh Hasina paid tribute to the relatives of those killed on August 15, 1975 at the capital's Banani cemetery. After 7:30 am on Tuesday, she visited the graves of her relatives and offered prayers. After that, Sheikh Hasina visited Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi No. 32. She paid homage to the portrait of the Father of the Nation.

Incidentally, the ruling Awami League under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina won the 12th National Parliament election held on January 7 for the fourth consecutive term. The party secured a single majority by winning 222 seats. As a result, Awami League is going to form the government for the fourth consecutive time.
