Sheikh Hasina sends condolence letter to Narendra Modi over Lata Mangeshkar's demise

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 7: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a letter to her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, conveyed her deepest condolences to the Government and people of India on the death of singing legend, Bharat Ratna, Lata Mangeshkar.

She said, "The people of Bangladesh are expressing solidarity with the people of India in this moment of mourning." 

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the national news agency BSS.

Sheikh Hasina said late Lata Mangeshkar was a cultural icon and a legend and one of the most talented artists of all time. She said that Lata had sung innumerable songs in different languages including Bengali with her wonderful melodious voice and had touched the hearts of millions of people in our region and beyond.

The Prime Minister said Mangeshkar's Bengali songs are now an integral part of the repertoire of Bengali culture. She remembered Lata ji's role in the liberation war of Bangladesh with deep respect and gratitude. She added that Lata ji, along with her Indian counterparts, had been instrumental in promoting Bangladesh among the people of India. The Prime Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the disembodied soul of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar.

Sheikh Hasina conveyed her deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and millions of fans of the artist across the globe and prayed for their strength to bear this irreparable loss.
