Dhaka, November 10: "I am not a murderer. I didn't kill on purpose, I didn't kill alone. Five to six people beat him, so he died. He (Raihan) snatched the money," said SI Akbar, a fugitive and expelled police, to the Khasias after they detained him in India.

Asked if he killed Raihan, Akbar said that he and his team took the former to the hospital. 'The public beat him. We took him to the hospital, he died there."

When asked why he ran away, Akbar said he was told by a senior officer to go away for two months.

The former SI then fled to the Indian border in collusion with an Indian family.

News of SI Akbar's arrest quickly spread through social media. Sylhet district police and Kanaighat police rushed to the border area and rescued Akbar from the locals and took him to the police station. Kanaighat Police Station SI Swapan Chandra Sarkar notified.

Earlier on Sunday night, the Khasias of the Dana slum in India detained Akbar from the hinterland of India. He was handed over to Bangladeshis living in the border area of Kanaighat around 1pm on Monday.

After being captured by the Khasias, SI Akbar pleaded, ‘By Allah, brother, I will not run away. I swear to God, I will not run away. '

Later, the Khasias tied Akbar with a rope and tried to take him away. At that time Akbar also requested to be taken away normally without being tied with rope.

It may be mentioned that Raihan (33), a resident of Neharipara area of the city, was caught and tortured for money on October 11 at Bandarbazar outpost in Sylhet.

He died in the morning. Tahmina Akhter Tanni, wife of the slain Raihan, filed a case against the unidentified accused at Sylhet Kotwali Police Station on Sunday night.
