Dhaka, 26 June 2021: Retired Army Major Sinha. The court has framed charges against 15 accused, including former Teknaf Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das, in the Rashed Khan murder case.

Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail passed the order on Sunday (June 26th), taking cognizance of the charges against them.

At the same time, the court rejected the bail pleas of former OC Pradeep, SI Nanda Dulal Rakshit and Constable Sagar Deb. Earlier, 15 accused, including former OC Pradeep, were produced in court on Sunday morning.

Advocate Faridul Alam, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the District and Sessions Judge's Court, said June 26 was the day set for the formation of charges in the murder case of retired Army Major Sinha. The accused were produced in court this morning. After a long hearing, the court framed charges against the accused at 12:30 pm. The next date for signing is July 27-28.

He added that Teknaf Police Station OC Pradeep Kumar Das, Constable Sagar Dev and lawyers representing SI Nandadulal Rakshit of Baharchhara Police Investigation Center, who were sacked in the case, sought bail from the case under Section 265 (c) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

It is learned that former OC Pradeep and SI Nandadulal had applied for bail on June 10. But the hearing was not held as the documents were not presented in the court that day. An appeal was filed in the court again on June 13. The court took cognizance of the application and fixed June 26 for hearing.

Besides, Constable Sagar Dev, accused in the case, surrendered before Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail on June 24 and sought bail. The court set Sunday for a hearing on his bail application.

It may be mentioned that on the night of July 31, 2020, retired Army Major Sinha Mohammad was shot dead by the police in a scuffle over a car search at Shamlapur check post of Baharchhara Union in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar. On August 5, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of the deceased, filed a case against Liaquat Ali, former in-charge (inspector) of Baharchhara police investigation center, accusing nine policemen, including former Teknaf police OC Pradeep Kumar Das.
