SSC exams postponed across the country due to floods

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 18: The SSC exams, which were scheduled to begin on June 19, have been postponed across the country due to floods.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Education on Friday said that SSC General, SSC Vocational and Dakhil examinations of all education boards, which were scheduled to be held on June 19, have been postponed due to deteriorating overall flood situation in the country. The revised examination schedule will be informed later.

Several upazilas of Sylhet and Sunamganj have been inundated due to heavy rain and onrush water from the hills. The flood situation in Sylhet has further deteriorated on Friday. The Bangladesh Army has been carrying out rescue and relief operations there.

In addition, due to heavy rains and onrush water from hills' slopes, the water level of Dharla river in Kurigram is rising and flowing at 3 cm above the danger level.

According to the Water Development Board office on Friday morning, the water of Dharla river is flowing 3 cm above the danger level at the bridge point.

The waters of Teesta and Brahmaputra rivers are also rising. The water of Teesta river is flowing 33 cm below the danger level at Kaunia point, the water of Brahmaputra river is flowing 5 cm below the danger level at Chilmari point and 30 cm below the danger level at Nunkhawa point.

Due to continuous rains and onrush water from the hills in the last few days, the water level of rivers has also increased in Netrokona. As a result, there is a risk of flood.

The water of Uddakhali, the main river of Kalmakanda upazila of the district, was flowing 43 cm above the danger level till 8 pm on Thursday.

This year's SSC examination was scheduled to start on June 19 with Bengali 1st paper examination. According to the routine, the theoretical test was scheduled to continue till July 6.
