Dhaka, August 20: Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said that Bangabandhu and his family were killed with the direct help of the murderer Ziaur Rahman-Khondaker Mostaq Ahmad and their successors were repeatedly plotting to assassinate Sheikh Hasina.

"The anti-independence forces brutally killed Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family to kill the ideology of the great war of liberation. Later, the attempted assassination on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was carried out on August 21 to make the Awami League leaderless," the minister said.

On the occasion of National Mourning Day and the 46th Martyrdom Anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and in memory of the victims of the horrific grenade attack on 21st August, the chief guest said this in a webinar titled 'Amra Muktijoddhar Sontan' (We are the Children of Freedom Fighters) (AMUS).

The Minister for Liberation War Affairs called upon the new generation, including the children of freedom fighters, to cherish the ideals of Bangabandhu and take forward the economic program of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. "The nation has to move forward by implementing the great liberation war and Bangabandhu's ideology in the national life. Only then will true respect be paid to the Father of the Nation," he said.

"Bangabandhu was a statesman skilled in all aspects. His three-and-a-half year rule was a shining example of this," he said. "Bangabandhu is the only leader in the world who dreamed of independence in his lifetime, united the people of the country in the war of independence and achieved independence. If Bangabandhu had not been born, we might not have been free today."

"Bangabandhu became a world leader in a short time. Bangabandhu stood in the world meeting and said, the world today is divided into two parts. Exploiter on one hand and exploited on the other, I am in favour of the exploited. He did not speak as a leader of Bangladesh in the world meeting, he spoke as a world leader. He said that the money should be spent on poverty alleviation, education and health by stopping the arms race. Standing at the UN, he would advise on what should be the policy of the world. If Bangabandhu was alive, Bangladesh would have become a developed country long ago," the minister said.

"The two events of August 15 and August 21 are intertwined. It was not just an assassination, it was a deep conspiracy. BNP-Jamaat and anti-independence clique are directly involved in this conspiracy. So it is time to unmask these conspirators. Therefore, I am hopeful that a neutral national commission will be formed soon to identify the culprits behind the assassination of Bangabandhu and present it to the nation," he said.
