Sultan of Oman invited to visit Bangladesh on independence golden jubilee celebrations

Dhaka, January 7: Foreign Minister A. K. Abdul Momen has invited Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman to visit Bangladesh on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and the golden jubilee of independence. Momen made this call during a telephone conversation with Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al-Busaidi on Wednesday.

He also thanked him for taking care of about 7 lakh expatriates in Bangladesh during the Covid-19 period, not a single one had to return to the country after being sacked and for taking back about 40,000 stranded workers by launching air travel recently.

Momen also thanked Oman for its recent efforts to reach an agreement between Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The Foreign Minister of Oman praised the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's government for tackling Bangladesh successfully. He noted that the two countries could cooperate in this regard, including the exchange of information.

The Foreign Minister of Oman said that the friendly relations between the two countries are getting stronger and stronger. He appreciated the role of expatriate Bangladeshis in the development of Oman. He also said that the government of Oman is on the side of the expatriate Bangladeshis in Corona.

In the first half of this year, the Foreign Ministers of the two countries agreed to hold a Foreign Office Consultation (FOC). The FOC will discuss various aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries. An agreement on visa exemption for travel of government and diplomatic passport holders of the two countries will be signed soon. Momen said Bangladesh would sign the agreement soon. The Under Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Oman has been appointed by the country as a signatory in this regard.

The Foreign Minister called for the import of Bangladeshi jute products as an alternative to polythene in Oman.

At this time Dr. Momen noted that the return on investment in Bangladesh is higher than in neighboring countries. He expects Oman to invest in the development of the country's economic zone and infrastructure. He also called for mutual cooperation on various issues.
