Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 13: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen described the statement given by the country's ambassador as 'false' because the Bangladesh government did not ask for any specific information from the Swiss authorities about the money kept by Bangladeshis in Swiss banks.

He said this while talking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (August 11).

Momen said, "She (Swiss ambassador Nathalie Chuard) spoke untruths. Bangladesh Bank Governor and Finance Secretary confirmed this to me. The bank has told me earlier that they wanted (information about money of Bangladeshis in Swiss banks). They (Switzerland) did not reply. I said, you tell people that. Because it is not right to get away with false words like this."

When asked whether the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will contact the Swiss Embassy in Dhaka or not, the minister said, our governor should give a statement first. We know them. Or finance ministry statement. I will tell you later.

Earlier on Wednesday (August 10) at the National Press Club at the 'DCAB Talk' organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association Bangladesh (DCAB), Nathalie Chuard said that Bangladesh did not ask for any specific information from the Swiss government regarding the deposit of money in the Swiss bank. Switzerland is not a haven for black money. There are many misconceptions about this.
