The ambassadors pledges to stand by Bangladesh in any initiative on the Rohingya issue

Dhaka, 12 June 2023 : Bangladesh has made it clear that the only solution to the Rohingya crisis lies in permanent repatriation to Myanmar.

And the ambassadors of different countries have expressed their commitment to stand by any initiative of Bangladesh to solve this crisis.

They expressed this promise in a meeting regarding humanitarian assistance to the Rohingyas at the Prime Minister's office on Sunday.

Ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Palestine, Iran, Turkey, Iraq and China participated in the meeting.

They highlighted the position of their respective countries on the Rohingya crisis. At the same time, he reiterated his commitment to support and assist any initiative of Bangladesh in this crisis.

Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Mia presided over the meeting. Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen, Public Security Secretary, Prime Minister's Office Secretary and Disaster Management and Relief Secretary were present. In this meeting of the GCC Plus Forum, there was a detailed discussion about the various assistances including food to the Rohingyas. Besides, Bangladesh calls for increasing the support and assistance of the international community for the quick and safe permanent repatriation of the Rohingyas to their own country, Myanmar.

The Prime Minister's Principal Secretary said the only solution to this crisis lies in the dignified permanent repatriation of the Rohingyas to their home country of Myanmar. Stating that there is no chance of local integration of Rohingyas, the Chief Secretary sought the cooperation of ambassadors in building an expanded temporary shelter in Bhasanchar.

Representatives of UN Resident Coordinator, UNHCR and World Food Organization were also present in the meeting. At the same time, Miss Gwynne Lewis, United Nations Resident Coordinator, and Dom Scalpelley, the representative of the World Food Organization in Bangladesh, highlighted the fact that the per capita allocation of humanitarian and food aid for the Rohingya has been reduced due to the global economic crisis.

Ambassador of Saudi Arabia Isha Yousef Isha Al-Duhailan, Ambassador of United Arab Emirates Abdullah Ali Abdullah Khasef Al-Hamoudi, Ambassador of Qatar Seraya Ali Al-Qahtani, Ambassador of Kuwait Ali Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Dhufairi, Ambassador of Oman Abdul Ghaffar Al-Bulushi, Ambassador of Palestine Yousef S. Y Ramadan, Iranian Ambassador Mansour Chavoshi, Turkish Ambassador Ramis Sen, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen and Iraqi Ambassador Mohanad AR Khalaf Al-Darraji were present.
