Dhaka, February 13: Mohammad Sahabuddin Chuppu is the 22nd President of the country. His nomination was finalized by Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Sahabuddin, who had an illustrious life, was a lawyer, professor, journalist and judge. He is the former Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

After protesting the killing of Bangabandhu after 1975, Mohammad Sahabuddin was detained under Section 7 of the Martial Law on August 20 and spent almost three years in prison.

He was born in 1949 in Jubilee Tankpara of Pabna city. His father was late Sharfuddin Ansari and mother Mosammat Khairunnecha. Mohammad Sahabuddin completed his education by obtaining MSc and LLB degrees from Rajshahi University. He participated in the Great War of Liberation after receiving training from India as a student. Mohammad Sahabuddin was one of the first flag hoisters of independent Bengal in Pabna as the Pabna district leader of Swadhin Bangla Chhatra Parishad. He was an active worker of Pabna Chhatra League. Then in 1971 he was elected president of Pabna District Chhatra League.

Mohammad Sahabuddin joined BCS (Judiciary) Department in 1982. In 1995, he was elected as the Secretary General of the Judicial Service Association. During his career, he served as Assistant Judge, Joint District Judge, Additional District Judge and District Judge in various districts. He was also a professor of Shaheed Bulbul College.

Mohammad Sahabuddin also served as the Pabna district representative of the now-defunct Bani newspaper of Bengal. This brave freedom fighter is a lifelong member of Pabna Press Club and Annada Govinda Public Library. He is the former Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). In addition, he served as Deputy Secretary of the Law Ministry and Director of the Prime Minister's Office. In 1999, Sahabuddin participated as a representative of Bangladesh in the International Law Conference held in Beijing, the capital of China. Served as Chairman of the Judicial Inquiry Commission to investigate the 2001 post-election violence. Mohammad Sahabuddin submitted a 1397-page report on the matter to the government.

His wife Dr. Rebecca Sultana retired from Joint Secretary to Govt as an officer of BCS Administration Cadre. He is currently working as a professor in a private university. Their only son Md. Arshad Adnan is a senior official of a private bank.
