Dhaka, July 4, 2021: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Holy Quran has spoke about secularism.

Our Prophet Karim (peace be upon him) said to be tolerant towards other religions, Hasina said.

She made the remarks in his closing remarks at the 13th session of the 11th National Assembly on Saturday (July 3rd).

The Prime Minister said, "We have been told in the Qur'an that Islam is a religion of peace. Islam gives dignity to all religions. The Qur'an says, ‘Lakum dinukum waliyadin’, meaning that whoever follows his religion will follow it. He will express his opinion."

Earlier in the day, Harunur Rashid of the BNP had claimed that there was no mention of secularism in the Quran. He also criticized the existence of secularism in the constitution of Bangladesh.

"Keeping secularism in the constitution is conflicting," Harun said.

Referring to BNP leader Harun's statement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "Honorable Member of Parliament has said that there is no mention of secularism in the Qur'an. I would say there is, of course. Our Prophet Karim (peace be upon him) said, to be tolerant towards other religions. He gave this teaching. 'At that time, the Prime Minister recited the verse of the Qur'an' Lakum Dinukum Waliadin '.

The Prime Minister said, "He will express his views. It really comes down to secularism. No matter how much he (MP Harunur Rashid) denies, the way he explains. That is the reality. It has been going on for ages. '

Sheikh Hasina said, "Yes, one must always give importance to one's religion." As well as being tolerant of other religions. That is our teaching. This is what Prophet Karim (peace be upon him) has said all the time. Therefore, it is better not to say such things in the parliament. '
