Threat to Peter Haas: Case against 7 people including Awami League leader

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 14 November 2023: A case has been filed against seven persons, including Mujibul Haque Chowdhury, chairman of Chambal Union Parishad of Chittagong's Banshkhali, and convenor of Union Awami League, for allegedly threatening to publicly beat US Ambassador Peter Haas, who is posted in Dhaka.

Others who have been requested to be accused are Iftekhar Uddin Babu, Sajjat, Ehsan, Farhad, Nashir and Saiful of Chambal Union Parishad.

International Human Rights Commission Bangladesh Chapter President MA Hashem Raju appealed the case in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury's court on Monday (November 13).

It is said in the application of the case that Mujibul Haque Chowdhury threatened US Ambassador Peter Haas in the presence and cooperation of all the accused in a public meeting in Banskhali on November 6. He threatened to kill Peter Haas and made lewd comments. Which was published in various newspapers on November 8. Apart from this, he also made ugly comments about US President Joe Biden and internationally renowned economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus, which is said to involve defamation worth thousands of takas.
