Dhaka, January 2: Three Bangladeshi women went to India illegally without passports and returned home after serving various terms in jail. India's Petrapole Immigration Police handed them over to Benapole Immigration Authority on Friday (January 1) afternoon. The victims said they were imprisoned in India for two years.

The returning women are Muslima Khatun, 27; Shilpi Akter, 28; and Rabia Khatun, 25.

Ahsan Habib, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole Checkpost Immigration, said: They were then sent to jail through the court. From there, an organization called 'Rescue Foundation' brought them and put them in their shelter home.

He added that they returned to the country on Friday afternoon on a special travel permit issued by the Indian government following a letter from the home ministries of the two countries. They were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after the immigration formalities.

Muhith, a program officer at Justice and Care, an NGO, said the three returning women had been brought to Jessore from Benapole Port Police Station to be handed over to their families.
