Dhaka, 28 February 2022: The deadline of Amar Ekushey Book Fair has been extended till 16 March. State Minister for Culture KM Khalid told reporters at his office in the Secretariat on Sunday (February 28th) at noon.

The state minister said the prime minister had approved today that the book fair would run till March 16. Because of Kovid, we were in a panic about the book fair, whether we would be able to start the book fair at all. It was once decided that the book fair would be postponed. Later, the Prime Minister directed to start the book fair from February 15. After the inauguration, the Knowledge and Creative Publishers Association, vendors and those associated with the book fair appealed to the Prime Minister whether the time of the fair could be extended. We said at the time that we would consider increasing book fair times if infections continued to decline.

The Prime Minister, in his inaugural address, said that after the fair was extended till March 16, it would depend on our cowardly situation. The good news today is that the Prime Minister has given his approval in the morning and the book fair has been extended till March 18. '

KM Khalid said those who took part in the book fair last year suffered financially. Because the fair started on 16th March and was supposed to end on the first day of Boishakh (14th April). But due to the increase in the infection rate, the fair has to end on April 12. If the seller or everyone involved wants to increase the time, the loss can be compensated. But this time the number of people in the book fair has come down. We are also trying to conduct the fair in accordance with the hygiene rules. We have imposed restrictions on wearing masks. March 17 is the birthday of the father of the nation. So far the fair time has been extended.

He added that many do not want to wear masks. He may wear it when entering the fair but he goes inside and takes it off. Those who go to the book fair are gentle people, so I would request them to follow the hygiene rules. We are not satisfied with the hygiene rules. Still trying.
