Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 8: Today is March 8, International Women's Day. This day is celebrated every year with the aim of building an egalitarian society-nation in the world for the protection of women's rights.

The UN has set the theme for Women's Day 2022 as "Women's Health and Awakening". In light of this theme, the Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs has set the theme for this year's International Women's Day: "For a sustainable future, gender equality is paramount today."

On this occasion, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has organized processions, discussions and cultural programs all over the country. In addition, government and non-government organizations will celebrate the day with various events.

On the occasion of the day, President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.

On the occasion of International Women's Day 2022, the President extended his best wishes and congratulations to all the women of the world including Bangladesh. The President called upon all, irrespective of gender, to work together for the sustainable development of the country and hoped that women would move forward in the future with the conviction of making equal contribution as men in building a happy, prosperous and democratic world.

In a separate message on the occasion of International Women's Day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished and congratulated all the women of the world and said that women have ensured equal participation in all the progress and development of civilization through their talents and labor. That is why the attitude towards women has changed all over the world today. Now women's work is being evaluated, recognition is increasing.

The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs organized a discussion meeting on the occasion of International Women's Day 2022. The meeting was held at 11 am today at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni was present as the chief guest at the meeting. UN Women's Office Chief Gitanjali Singh was the special guest at the event, which was chaired by Farida Parveen, Director General, Department of Women's Affairs.

Various non-governmental organizations have taken various programs on the occasion of International Women's Day. The National Press Club has organized a discussion program on the occasion of International Women's Day titled "Women Journalism in 50 Years of Independence".
