Trains will go directly from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar in Sept

Dhaka, May 17: Cox's Bazar-Dhaka railway link will start in September this year. About 84 percent of the ongoing project has already been completed. The remaining 16 percent work is expected to be completed soon.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said this on Tuesday (May 16) after inspecting the progress of the construction of Cox's Bazar Iconic Railway Station in Jhilongja, Cox's Bazar.

The railway minister said that people from all over the country are very interested in coming to Cox's Bazar by train. For ease of work the project is divided into two parts. All efforts are being made to complete the work by August next and to open in September. If it is launched, there will be great development in the tourism sector of the country. Railways will play an important role in economic growth.

Meanwhile, the main attraction of Chittagong's Dohazari-Cox's Bazar railway is the country's first iconic railway station. A pearl in the belly of a huge oyster, clear water flowing around it, the train will come in the atmosphere. The sleek modern station will look like an airport in the developed world. The construction of the country's first iconic railway station is now at its final stage.

Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar Muhammad Shaheen Imran said, the work of 50 km railway line of Cox's Bazar has been completed. Out of the 50 km Chittagong section, 25 km work has been completed and the remaining 25 km work is expected to be completed by August, project officials said. All in all, if the railway line is fully operational, a new horizon will begin in the country's tourism industry.

Md. Abdul Jaber Milon, Construction Manager of Dohazari-Cox's Bazar Railway Project, said that the iconic oyster-shaped railway station is now visible at a cost of Tk 215 crore, covering an area of about 29 acres in Chanderpara, Jhelongar, three kilometers from Cox's Bazar beach. During its construction, facilities of various modern stations of the world including China, Belgium, England, Italy have been considered. The iconic railway station building is visible today after four years of labor of over six hundred people including 250 engineers and laborers including 110 foreigners in the project. Now the installation of glass fittings, roof steel canopy, and other types of fittings is going on all around.

After visiting the iconic station site with the district administration of Cox's Bazar and related officials on Tuesday, the railway minister inspected the progress of the single line dual gauge track construction from Ramu to Ghumdhum on the Myanmar border.
