Own representative, Dhaka, January 1: A case has been registered against Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police, Emadul Haque, in connection with the death of two persons in an accident in the capital's Gulistan area. The accident occured when a bus was being removed from the area by ASI Emadul Haque, shortly after the vehicle met with another accident. Emadul Haque has been posted as an ASI at Paltan Police Station.

Paltan Police Station's Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Salah Uddin Mian said on Friday (December 31) that the father of Tushar, who was killed in the accident, had filed a case under sections 96 and 105 of the Road Transport Act at the police station on Friday morning. Earlier on Thursday (December 30) at around 4:00 pm, Shukur Mahmud Babul and Raisul Kabir Tushar, both expatriates of the United States, were killed in a road accident in front of Sergeant Ahad Police Box in Gulistan.

Paltan Police Station's duty officer, SI Shamim Hossain, on Thursday night said the incident had started at the capital's Mayor Hanif Flyover. Wari Police Station's constable Nasir Uddin was seriously injured after being hit by a bus of Srabon Paribahan on the flyover. The injured constable was rescued and rushed to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital in the capital. A heavy traffic congestion was created there as the driver and conductor of the bus fled the spot following the accident. To restore the vehicular movement, ASI Emadul Haque tried to drive the bus to clear the scene. He did not know that the bus had a brake failure. When the bus reached the Ahad Police Box, it suddenly lost control and climbed onto the divider, leaving four passers-by injured.

When the injured people were taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) hospital, two of them were pronounced dead and remaining two were released after being provided first-aid. OC Shamim said ASI Emadul Haque has been detained in connection with the incident.

When Shamim was asked if the detained ASI had a driving license, he said when ASI Emadul had started working as a police constable, he used to drive the vehicles of senior officials. He had driving license since then and also had experience of driving. Later Emadul was promoted to ASI.
