Two sentenced to death in Kishoreganj murder case

Dhaka, January 26: A court has sentenced two people, including a woman, to death in a murder case seven years ago in Bhairab, Kishoreganj. Judge Md. Abdur Rahim of the district's first additional district and sessions judge court pronounced the verdict on Monday.

The convicts are Kazi Nazrul Islam (35) and Sumona alias Shila (28) of Brahmanbaria district.

Prosecutor Abu Saeed Imam said Nazrul Islam was present in the courtroom when the verdict was announced. Shila is a fugitive on bail. In addition to the death penalty, they were also fined Tk 2,00,000.

The judge also acquitted the two men as the allegations were not substantiated. They are Ashraful Russell and Sharif Mia.

According to the details of the case, Sumona Begum got divorced after marrying Kazi Nazrul Islam. Later, Sumona fell in love with Nabi Hossain of Uttarpara while she was living in a rented house in Chandiber Dakshinpara area of ​​Bhairab in Kishoreganj. Meanwhile, Sumona's relationship with Nazrul was re-established. Sumona had a dispute with Nabi Hossain over this.

On December 21, 2014, Sumona called Nabi Hossain and took him to her rented house. Nabi Hossain was strangled to death with a sharp weapon at Sumona's house late that night with the help of Nazrul Islam. The body was later cut into six pieces and hidden in several places in Bhairab.

On December 23, police recovered part of the body and the rest the next day. On the same day, Bilkish Begum, wife of the deceased, filed a case with Bhairab Police Station accusing unidentified persons. The case was later handed over to the CID.

Following the investigation, CID police SI Mohammad Nazrul Islam filed a chargesheet against the four on January 21, 2016.
