Dhaka, June 20: Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal telephoned Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday. During the conversation, the Prime Minister of Ukraine reiterated his stance on working with Sheikh Hasina to take the existing bilateral relations between the two countries to new heights.

Expressing her optimism about the smooth transportation of food grains from Ukraine, Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh wants the existing war to stop immediately so that food grains can be easily sent from Ukraine, known as the 'bread basket' of the world, to food shortage countries.

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh expressed full support to the UN-led "Black Sea Crops Initiative" and thanked all those involved in such initiatives. In this context, she expressed optimism that such great steps will continue in the coming days.

Denis Shmyhal urged the Prime Minister to stand by Ukraine in the international arena, especially at the United Nations and other forums.

Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the United Nations as per the objectives and policies of the United Nations. The Prime Minister called for peaceful resolution of all disputes and said this principle should be followed universally. She deplored the loss of lives of civilians and children due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Sheikh Hasina mentioned that the development of Bangladesh, which believes in the principle of peace, is also through war, but war does not bring welfare to any side. After their conversation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished Denis Shmyhal good health.
