Dhaka, August 10: Bangladeshi citizen Lt. Col. (retd.) AKM Sufiul Anam, a UN official kidnapped in Yemen by the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, has returned to the country. He arrived home on a flight at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at five o'clock on Wednesday afternoon. He is physically fit.

At the airport, Sufiul Anam narrated his abduction to the media. Meanwhile, he thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for rescuing him through the National Security Intelligence (NSI) agency and expressed his gratitude. He also expressed sincere thanks to NSI.

Narrating the abduction incident, Sufiul Anam said, I was not tortured after the abduction. The place has been transferred at least 18 times in the last one and a half years. But I cannot describe the pain. I passed the time in great difficulty. I have passed through a very dangerous time. Every moment I was afraid of terrorists, afraid of death, afraid of accidents. But by the grace of Allah and your prayers I am back.

Sufiul Anam has been handed over to her family after speaking to reporters, an intelligence source said.

Former Bangladesh army officer AKM Sufiul Anam was abducted from the southern part of Yemen on February 11, 2022. Since then, there was no trace of this official. He was believed to have been killed by the militant group after his abduction.
