She said that meeting the demand for fuel is an ongoing process. A six-month agreement was signed for the procurement of fuel from abroad. The current contract runs until December. It will be possible to meet the demand of 30-35 days with stored oil. By this time, two ships will arrive in the country with oil. In other words, fuel will continue to be supplied to the country uninterruptedly.

On Wednesday (August 31), the parliament leader said these in response to the question of Md. Shahidul Islam Bakul, member of parliament for Natore-1 constituency, during the question and answer session scheduled for the Prime Minister in the National Parliament.

She said, "Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) imports diesel, jet fuel, octane, furnace oil, and marine fuel as refined fuel oil and Arabian light crude oil and Marban crude oil as crude fuel oil to meet the needs of the country."

Highlighting the government's steps to continue oil import, Sheikh Hasina said, "In order to continue the supply of fuel oil, considering the demand, the schedule for importing about 3,25,000 metric tonnes of diesel, 50,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel, and 50,000 metric tonnes of octane in the current (August) month, and about 3,00,000 metric tonnes of diesel, 20,000 metric tonnes of jet fuel, 50,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil and 25,000 metric tonnes of octane in September has been finalized.

The head of government said, "Considering the increased demand of Bangladesh Power Development Board (BUBO), a proposal has been sent to the supplier for the supply of 25,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil in August and 25,000 metric tonnes of furnace oil and 1,20,000 metric tonnes of diesel in September. About 2,00,000 metric tonnes of crude oil will be imported in August and about 1,00,000 metric tonnes in September for production of refined fuel oil through processing and refining at Eastern Refinery Limited. Moreover, the collection of fuel oil from domestic sources continues."
