Universal Pension: PM orders to spread awareness against misinformation

Dhaka, August 29: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed everyone to keep an eye on people knowingly participating in the universal pension and not being influenced by any kind of persuasion or propaganda.

She gave this order at the Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister's office on Monday, August 28. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain gave this information in a press briefing at the Secretariat after the meeting.

The cabinet secretary said that the universal pension scheme has been launched. It has aroused great response among people. More than 10,000 registrations have already been done. More than 1,00,000 registrations are in process. But false propaganda or negative propaganda is being spread against the historic initiative. The Prime Minister directed the concerned to present to the people the real information, what the government has done, what it is going to do, how the people will benefit.

He said that the Prime Minister has said that the people should participate here with knowledge and understanding. Everyone has been asked to keep vigilance so that they are not influenced by any kind of incitement or propaganda.

He also said that those who speak in the government will tell it. If anyone asks any question about it, answer it. A publicity measure will be taken from the Ministry of Information. So that it gets wide publicity and so that people are aware.

What kind of action will be taken against those who spread propaganda? When asked such a question, he said, there is no need to give any separate instructions about it.

Soon after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Universal Pension Scheme on August 17, people started applying for Pravas Scheme, Pragati Scheme, Suraksha Scheme and Samata Scheme. 1,700 people completed the registration and paid the subscription on the first day after the inauguration. They submitted a contribution of around Tk 90 lakh. And 8,551 people completed the entire process of registration by paying the subscription in the first week. The amount of subscription they submitted was Tk 4 crore 39 lakh 25 thousand.
