Dhaka, August 27: It has been decided to open the public universities step by step from October 17. However, before that, information on vaccination should be sent to the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the form of a table from all the universities. It was decided that the universities which would be 100 per cent vaccinated would be able to start all the activities, including opening the university halls.

On Thursday (August 27) at noon, a meeting was held with the technical committee including the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education to monitor the situation in Corona and reopen the educational institution. Education Minister Dipu Moni informed about the decision there. Earlier, the meeting was informed that the public university would be opened on October 15. But later the decision was changed to October 17 (Sunday) as it was a Friday.

After discussing with the Vice Chancellors (VCs) of several universities in the meeting, UGC Chairman Kazi Shahidullah asked the Education Minister about the opening of the university. At that time, Education Minister Dipu Moni said, the university can be opened step by step from October 17 in accordance with the health rules. Before that, the information of how many teachers and students have been vaccinated in a university should be sent to UGC in the form of a table. Information on how many of them have taken the second dose of vaccine, and how many have taken one dose, how many students of the dormitory hall have been vaccinated should be sent to UGC.

The meeting was further told to send information to those who have National Identity Card (NID) but have not been vaccinated. And those who do not have NID are also asked to send information. Arrangements will be made to vaccinate them as soon as possible by NID before the introduction of mass vaccination. If not, alternative measures will be taken.

Dipu Moni said the UGC will be able to approve the opening of the university if the information is satisfactory. However, she directed to close the university for those whose vaccination activities will not end.
