Laser Strike US-Bangla pilot targeted with laser before Dhaka landing
Dhaka, March 27: There was thunderstorm in the sky of Dhaka. Unable to land at the airport due to hostile weather, several planes were circling in cloudy skies. A US-Bangla flight from Bangkok, Thailand, joined the air traffic. After circling for about 20 minutes, the flight was cleared to land on the runway. But when the pilot was about to land the flight, something went wrong. Laser beams were being thrown at the eyes of the pilot from the roofs of houses in different areas of Dhaka. Flight landing in such conditions becomes very risky. Still the pilot managed to land the flight efficiently and safely.
Passengers on the flight witnessed such an incident at 7:30 pm on March 19. The pilot decided to land the flight at 8:50 pm. Meanwhile, the flight was proceeding to land over Siddhirganj in Narayanganj. At that time, a large number of laser beams were being thrown towards the flight from Siddhirganj, Demra, Rampura, Aftab Nagar, Badda, Kuril areas of Dhaka. The passengers were shocked to see such a situation. Later, the flight efficiently landed safely on the southern runway of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
The airport authorities claim that they are aware of the incident of throwing laser lights on the flight. They are conducting public awareness programs at various times to stop such activities. Besides, the concerned police department has been asked to take legal action. But it is very difficult to enforce the law in this case. Because, it is difficult to collect or determine the exact data of when the laser light is thrown from the roof of a building or house. Therefore airport authorities are giving the most importance to create public awareness.
