Dhaka, 11 December 2022 : The sailors of a Vietnamese oil tanker rescued 154 Rohingya from a sinking boat in the Andaman Sea.

Among the 154 rescued Rohingyas, 40 are women and 31 are children.

These Rohingyas were rescued from the Andaman Sea on Wednesday (December 8). They were handed over to the Myanmar Navy on Thursday (December 9).

According to a report by the news agency Reuters citing Vietnamese media VTC News, a Vietnamese oil tanker named Hai Duong 29 was heading from Singapore to Myanmar. The ship's sailors saw the sinking boat on the way. The coast of Myanmar is 458.7 kilometers south of the area of the sea where the boat was located.

In a report citing the sailors of the rescue vessel Hai Duong 29, VTC News reported that the boat's engine had stopped at sea and was slowly sinking due to a hole in the bottom.

After the rescue, the Rohingya were taken on board and handed over to the Myanmar Navy the next day by sailors. Reuters contacted the officials of Myanmar's ruling junta, Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Hai Duong Petroleum and Marine Corp, the company that owns the Hai Duong 29 ship, to find out more details. But none of them agreed to comment.
