Voting has started in two cities,Awami ahead in Khulna, Barisal is likely to be a three-way fight

Dhaka, June 12, 2023: Voting for Khulna and Barisal City Corporation elections has started today at 8 am.

Continuous polling in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will continue till 4 pm. The election of these two cities caught everyone's attention.

In Khulna City, the ruling Awami League mayoral candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek is far ahead.

However, glimpses of a three-way fight have been seen in Barisal City. In this city Awami League candidate Abul Khair Abdullah, independent candidate. Kamrul Ahsan and the Islamic Movement of Bangladesh Mufti Syed Md. Local voters think that there will be competition between Faizul Karim.

Awami League nominated candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek (Boat), Jatiya Party nominated Md. Shafiqul Islam Madhu (Plough), Islamic Movement Bangladesh Nominee Md. Abdul Awal (Hatpakha) and Zaker party nominee SM Sabbir Hossain (Golapful) and the only independent candidate SM Shafiqur Rahman Mushfiq (Wall Clock). 136 councilors are contesting from 31 general wards, 39 councilor candidates are contesting in 10 reserved wards.

Among them, SM Khurshid Ahmed Tona in Ward No. 13 of the city and ZA Mahmud Don in Ward No. 24 were elected unopposed.

In Barisal City Corporation, Awami League's boat symbol candidate Abul Khair Abdullah Serniabat, Islami Andolan Bangladesh Hatpakha symbol candidate Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim, Jatiya Party's plow symbol candidate Iqbal Hossain Tapas, Zaker Party's rose flower symbol candidate Mizanur Rahman Bachchu, table clock symbol candidate Candidate Kamrul Ahsan Rupon, independent candidate of elephant symbol. Independent candidate of Asaduzzaman and Harin Prateik. Ali Hussain Howladar is contesting.

In order to avoid any kind of unpleasant incident and for the voters to go to the center to vote smoothly, 16 RAB teams, 10 platoon Coast Guard, 4500 law enforcement officers including Anasar are deployed. Besides, 30 Executive Magistrates and 10 Judicial Magistrates are performing their duties.
