Dhaka, April 27: Health Minister Zahid Maleque said, "Vaccination activities are being hampered due to untimely receipt of India's corona vaccine. However, we are not relying on India's vaccine. We have already contacted Russia and China for vaccination. China has said it will give 500,000 vaccines as a gift."

He told reporters at noon on Monday (April 26) at the premises of Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons in the capital.

The health minister said the country's corona hospitals have the capacity to treat 7,000 patients. If the number of patients reaches 21,000, they will have to work hard to carry out medical activities. Neighboring India is struggling as it is now.

"We are now paying for the second wave of corona. An average of 100 people are dying every day. The rate of infection has increased many times over last year. So we have to learn from mistakes at this time," he added.

"We asked India for 30 million vaccines. We paid for the demand. But now they are not vaccinating us. The government and Beximco are trying to do that. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are trying to do that. She has spoken to Modi. But he is not sure when the vaccine will come."
