Dhaka, May 20: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government has built a Digital Bangladesh.

"We have built a digital Bangladesh. There is no substitute for following a single international approach to ensuring the correct weight and measurement of equipment used in all areas of industry, trade and service. The traditional method of measurement will ensure access to accurate measurement of products and services, including access to open information through digital conversion, and will contribute to sustainable development. Digital conversion of weights and measures will bring benefits to the general public. To this end, we are working on all the necessary measures," she said in a message on the occasion of 'World Metrology Day-2022' on Friday (May 20).

The Prime Minister said the greatest Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, through his dedicated efforts, became a member of BSTI International Standards Organization in 1974 and National Codex Contact Point of Bangladesh Codex Elementary Commission in 1975. Since Ojhang became a member, BSTI has been relentlessly working as the National Standards Organization (NSO) of Bangladesh in determining the quality of various products of Bangladesh such as food, textiles, housing, health and education materials and equipment and ensuring accurate weights and measures as per the standards set by the International Standards and Measurement Organization.

She said the South Asian Association for Regional Standards (SAARC) was established in 2011 by all the SAARC countries under the leadership of Bangladesh under the initiative of the Awami League government and its headquarters was set up in Dhaka. We have enacted the Weights and Measures Standards Act in 2016 and the Product Wrapping Rules in 2021.

The Prime Minister said, "I believe that digital system will be implemented in all fields including measurement with the concerted efforts of all and industrialists, businessmen and BSTE will play a greater role in building the golden Bangladesh of the Father of the Nation's dream by building a developed and prosperous country by 2041."

She wished overall success to all the programs taken on the occasion of the day.
