We won't take loans, will give it: Finance Minister

Dhaka, June 5: In the proposed budget, the rate of gross domestic product (GDP) for the fiscal year 2021-22 has been fixed at 7.2 percent. Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has said that even though it is difficult to achieve this GDP growth in the amid the coronavirus pandemic, it is certainly possible.

The finance minister also said that the country will lend and not borrow in the future.

"We have achieved what we have said in the past. The networks that are needed to achieve this are very strong. The dynamics of the macro-economy is extremely progressive. Once everything becomes normal, Bangladesh's economy will turn around again. We will show growth," the lawmaker said.

"Discussions are going on all over the world about our economic development. On July 30, 2019, our foreign exchange reserves were USD 32.7 billion, a year later it rose to USD 36 billion. It increased by four billion in one year. Then last December it reached USD 43.1 billion. And on Thursday it was USD 45.1 billion," he said.

"We are capable enough. In 2019, we said, the day is not far away when we will give loans to other countries. In future we will give loans, we will not take loans," the finance minister added.
