Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 7 September 2023: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will attend the G-20 summit dinner. She is going there on the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu. It is expected that Banerjee will have a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the sidelines of this event.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G-20 summit in New Delhi. It is said that the Teesta issue will be discussed in the meeting. In this situation, the participation of the Chief Minister of West Bengal and the meeting with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in the same conference is considered to be particularly significant.

Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen recently said in response to a question from journalists that Bangladesh's head of government will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G-20 conference. The share of Teesta river has been discussed at high political level or has been. "This time too, I hope the Prime Minister will raise the issue. The Prime Minister will raise the issue raised by Teesta water distribution in the meeting. There are other issues as well."

Masud bin Momen said, "We have 54 identical rivers. There is the Ganga water sharing agreement, that will also be taken up (in discussions). Our Joint Rivers Commission and others continue to discuss all issues."

When asked whether inter-state rivers will be discussed in the Hasina-Modi meeting and today's inter-ministerial meeting, the foreign secretary said, "We did not discuss this separately. We discussed the implementation on the sidelines."

In March this year, Dhaka has asked New Delhi through a diplomatic letter about the digging of two new canals in West Bengal to withdraw Teesta water. More than five months have passed. Asked whether he had received any message from New Delhi in this regard, the secretary said, "We have not received it yet."
