Dhaka, September 9: The overall development of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital will be ensured to meet the need of patients seeking better treat abroad, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Sharfuddin Ahmed said.

He said, "Bangladesh would not exist if Bangabandhu was not born. In the former IPGMR, when Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Nesa Mujib was undergoing treatment at the present university [BSMMU], Bangabandhu visited Bangamata and instructed to build the institution in such a way that patients get better medical care here and do not have to go abroad for treatment. The present Prime Minister and Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina also hopes that the patients will get the best and latest medical services in this university. If this is confirmed, patients can be prevented from going abroad for treatment."

Dr. Sharfuddin Ahmed said that in order to fulfill the expectations of Bangabandhu and the Prime Minister, the overall development of all the departments and offices of BSMMU will be ensured. To this end, the University needs to recruit the required manpower, provide state-of-the-art equipment, enrich specialized disciplines, increase collaboration with various medical universities and institutes around the world, increase the number of research publications, emphasize super specialties and ensure funding. The current administration is working relentlessly.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural and exchange meeting of the Neurosurgical Skills Lab at the Department of Neurosurgery on Wednesday (September 8). The Skill Lab has been set up with the aim of advancing the education and research activities of the Department of Neurosurgery and ensuring realistic hands-on learning and training activities for the students.
